As an extension of the Graduate Artist Residency in partnership with Tyneside Cinema and Northumbria University, artist Siân Hutchings has collated an exhibition of work that focuses on the aural boundaries of painting. Using choreographic interactions with traditional gesso (a primer for painting made from animal glue and chalk), Siân evokes the voice of this material that has previously been considered for its support to the image. An installation consisting of paint, costumes, sound, moving image and a dance floor from her recent film ‘Quietly Beneath’, Siân uses the space to open the performative values of painting.
