Yakshis are a spirit figure in Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. They have been worshipped in India for thousands of years and are believed to help people with pregnancy, and also bring wealth and happiness. They are closely associated with sacred trees, water and rocks. As Buddhism developed, images of Yakshis, like this one, were also used in early Buddhist temples.
